Due to the Coronavirus pandemic and the consequent shut down of theatres all over the world, the mindset of the Indian audiences has changed drastically. The average Indian audience simply does not want to step out of the house to watch a rom-com or a social drama.
Owing to this, recent movies like Ante Sundaraniki and Virata Parvam have remained average ventures at the box office. But, when these movies hit the OTT route, they are deemed as classics or huge blockbusters.
When actors or directors of such movies feel that the movie will be a classic once it releases on OTT, they start blaming the audiences for the failure of the film. The most common statement is that “The audience has not watched the movie properly. They have not understood the film.”
In recent times, we have seen the same comments made for Wild Dog, with Nagarjuna stating that it was not a flop. Nani and director Vivek Athreya blamed the audiences’ mindset for Ante Sundaraniki’s failure and perhaps this is the only possible exception. Ante Sundaraniki had all the right elements and did not deserve a failure tag at the box office.
