Production designer Avinash Kolla shared that after hearing the story of Peddi from director Buchi Babu Sana, he was emotionally shaken for nearly 20 minutes. The emotional depth of the script had such a strong impact that Kolla called it the most exciting project he has heard in his 10-year career.
Recreating 1970s Vizianagaram: 24 Major Sets
Avinash revealed that Peddi is set in the 1970s–80s. The team recreated the entire Vizianagaram backdrop from scratch, including streets, a clock tower, rural locations, wrestling arenas, cricket grounds, and even a sugar factory.
Around 24 major sets and nearly 60–70 setups were created. All were designed to look completely natural so audiences would not realize they were sets. The production designer said the team took extreme care with every detail because of the story’s emotional strength.
Over a Year of Pre-Production
The movie had over a year of pre-production work, with every set carefully planned using miniatures. Most scenes were shot in open grounds using natural lighting to maintain authenticity.
Avinash Kolla also mentioned a specially designed underground wrestling setup and a challenging hill-station village set built in Hyderabad.
Ram Charan’s Dedication Despite Injury
Speaking about Ram Charan, Avinash praised the actor for appreciating every set. He revealed that Charan returned to shooting quickly even after getting injured during a wrestling action sequence to avoid delays in the production schedule.
An Emotional Cinematic Experience
Overall, Avinash Kolla described Peddi as a unique emotional film that will leave audiences teary-eyed by the end. He added that the story’s emotional power is the reason why Sukumar recently said Ram Charan’s performance in the film could surpass Rangasthalam.
The film, which has been postponed from its original April 30 release to June 2026, continues to generate strong anticipation among audiences and trade circles.
