The ongoing tickets issue has now taken another turn. Just a day after the AP High Court trashed the G.O 35, the government has decided to challenge it. According to the reports, the Andhra Pradesh government has decided to appeal against this decision of the High Court in what it is terming as an anti-people.
The government has stated that it will challenge this decision for the benefit of the people of Andhra Pradesh. The whole issue started back in April when the YS Jaganmohan Reddy government issued G.O 35.
According to the earlier rules, the government could fix the maximum admission rates of movie theatres. Now this ‘maximum’ clause has been removed and it has empowered the government to change the ticket rates from time to time depending on the need and demands of the situation. This decision created great panic in industry circles.
A series of meetings were held between the film industry big wigs and Jaganmohan Reddy and Perni Nani. None of these meetings brought any conclusion.
Jaganmohan Reddy has been quite firm on this move. He has not been willing to go back on the price rates for quite some time. This decision has put the producers and exhibitors in a spot of bother as they are already reeling under losses due to Covid enforced lockdown.
A number of Tollywood biggies are set to release in the coming days. With the government intervening in High Court’s decision now, it needs to be seen what new turn this takes.
