High court suspends AP GO on new ticket prices, big relief to Tollywood biggies

Tollywood biggies lined for release in the upcoming days can breathe a sigh of relief. The AP High Court has dismissed the G.O 35 that regulated the ticket prices in the state. The G.O was issued in April much to the disappointment of the filmmakers.

According to the earlier rules, the government could fix the maximum admission rates of movie theatres. Now this ‘maximum’ clause has been removed and it has empowered the government to change the ticket rates from time to time depending on the need and demands of the situation. This decision created great furore in industry circles.

A series of meetings were held between the film industry big wigs and Jaganmohan Reddy and Perni Nani. None of these meetings brought any conclusion.

Jaganmohan Reddy has been quite firm on this move and has not been willing to go back on the price rates for quite sometime. This decision has put the producers and exhibitors in a spot of bother as they are already reeling under losses due to Covid enforced lockdown.

This week onwards Tollywood will see a series of big-ticket films. Pushpa is slated for a release on 17th Dcember. Along with this pan-India films such as RRR and Radhe Shyam are also slated for a Sankranti release. Pawan Kalyan’s Bheemla Nayak is another biggie slated for January release.

With so many Tollywood biggies up for release in the coming days, the AP High Court’s decision has come in as a shot in arm for the film industry.
