Now that the film’s release is around the corner, filmmaker Nag Ashwin is now openly discussing the backdrop of his film. As a part of promotions, the filmmaker has revealed that Kalki 2898 AD takes place in three different worlds.
First up is Varanasi (also called Kashi), which is believed to be the place where human civilisation began. The core point of the film is that the entire world has been destroyed, with Varanasi being the only place to survive. In simpler terms, this is the only place with human resources.
Above Varanasi is a gigantic structure called a ‘complex’. This is like the home of the elite, with all the greenery, water, resources, food, and animals, and it’s every person’s dream in Varanasi to enter the complex. The major chunk of the film happens between these two worlds. Besides these, there’s a secret place called ‘Shambala’.
According to the legend, Shambala is the birthplace of Kalki, the tenth avatar of Vishnu, who is destined to execute Kalki, the evil spirit in the world. Revealing these details has certainly prepared the audience to watch the film confusion-free. Kalki 2898 AD is hitting the big screens on June 27, 2024.
