Akhanda 2: High Court Angry on Government and Book My Show

The Telangana High Court expressed strong displeasure at the producers of Akhanda 2 and BookMyShow and questioned their disregard for court orders and going with hiked ticket rates. The judges asked, “Do court orders mean nothing? Even after instructions, why are tickets being sold online?”

BookMyShow, which claimed that tickets had already been purchased by audiences before the suspension orders were received was specifically questioned by the Telangana High Court. The judges further asked whether tickets were still being sold online at increased rates and demanded an explanation: “Why should contempt proceedings not be initiated against you?”

In connection with this issue, the High Court has issued Contempt of Court notices to CV Anand IPS, Secretary of the Home Department, Telangana, and to Ashish Hemrajani, CEO of BookMyShow. The notices were served because the premiere shows of Akhanda 2 continued despite the High Court’s suspension of the government order allowing ticket price hikes.

The case was heard, and notices were formally issued to both officials. The next hearing has been scheduled for two weeks later.

The petition was argued by Advocate Vijay Gopal, who raised concerns about the violation of court directives and the continuation of ticket sales at hiked prices.
