Despite getting postponed by a week, Balakrishna’s Akhanda 2 gathered decent buzz, and it was expected to get massive openings at the box office, but the film missed its target, as it failed to beat Chiranjeevi’s Sye Raa movie’s record.
Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, released in 2019, still carries the biggest opening among senior heroes with around 80 Cr gross. Many films were released after that, but no film was able to break it or even come close to it.
Even Chiranjeevi’s other films failed to match that record. Akhanda 2, considering the blockbuster sequel and pan-India appeal, was expected to break Sye Raa’s record. The film had good craze, but it failed to generate the necessary buzz and fell short of expectations. The release delay and mixed reviews from the premieres negatively impacted its box office performance.
The film’s early estimates are around 50 Cr gross worldwide for day 1, and it is likely to be Balakrishna’s biggest opening. It needs to be seen whether Chiru can beat the opening of Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy with Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu.
