Aadarsha Kutumbam had generated only modest buzz ahead of its release and followed it up with a decent-to-below-par opening weekend. Monday, however, was always going to be the litmus test for the Venkatesh and Trivikram film. Unfortunately, it has crashed on its first weekday, collecting an estimated ₹4.25 crore gross worldwide. With the four-day total standing at approximately ₹56 crore against an estimated break-even target of ₹125 crore, the film’s chances of recovering its investment now look bleak.
The road ahead is only getting tougher for Aadarsha Kutumbam. With Ramayana arriving in theatres on November 5 and Suriya’s Scene following on November 6, the film is set to lose screens and, eventually, footfalls. It has recovered less than 50% of its estimated break-even requirement so far and needs another ₹69 crore to reach that mark. Given the sharp Monday decline and the competition lined up this week, a disaster appears to be on the cards.
For a combination as prominent as Venkatesh and Trivikram, this is an embarrassing result. Both names came with considerable expectations, making the film’s box-office performance all the more disappointing. The setback could also have implications for Trivikram’s next big project, God of War, starring NTR. While it is too early to predict the impact, the disappointing outcome of Aadarsha Kutumbam could put additional pressure on the director to deliver with his next outing.
