After a brief hiatus, director Mohanakrishna Indraganti is back with romantic drama Aa Ammayi Gurinchi Meeku Cheppali. Starring Sudheer Babu and Krithi Shetty in lead roles, has not succeeded in generating big buzz before the movie’s release. However, if the word of mouth works out, the movie can pull the audience to the theatres in big numbers as we have seen with some recent releases. But, does the movie have enough to get the box-office buzzing? Let’s check out.

Story: Naveen (Sudheer Babu) is a star director who has back to back blockbusters to his credit. Despite the success, he has some detractors and wants to prove them wrong by making another successful outing. This is when he comes across Dr Alekhya (Krithi Shetty). He approaches her for his film which she refuses. Does he succeed in his quest and is he able to convince Dr Alekhya? This is what the story follows.

Performances:  Sudheer Babu’s characterization is that of a director. However, with the glamourous look and dialogues, it doesn’t look convincing. He looks great on screen but ha little scope to perform. Krithi Shetty has had a busy year and after Warrior, Macherla Niyojakavargam, this film is her third release in as many months. However, compared to those films, she has got a strong character here and has shown good improvement overall. All other characters such as Vennela Kishore, Rahul Ramakrishna and Avasarala Srinivas have done justice to their characters but there is nothing much to take home from their parts.

Analysis: Mohanakrishna Indraganti is known for his simplicity in stories and its the same with Aa Ammayi Gurinchi Meeku Cheppali. The film has pretty basic plot with not a lot of conflicts. In such a situation, it is absolutely important to have strong emotions and tight screenplay. This romantic drama fails on both these areas. The story and characterizations will remind you of movies like Sammohanam and Shyam Singha Roy. However, its not like there are only downsides to the project. The pre-interval and interval episodes are skillfully crafted and the film is technically good. The film certainly has its moments and canbe described as a breezy watch.

Plus Points:

  • Concept
  • Interval block
  • Visuals

Minus Points:

  • Predictable scenes
  • Lacklustre screenplay
  • Music

Verdict:

Aa Ammayi Gurinchi Meeku Cheppali is one of those films where everything feels right but there’s a lot missing. The film had a great potential on paper but the execution, pacing and writing have let the film down. Overall, it is the weakest work from Mohanakrishna Indraganti.
