A letter from Zee Studios went viral on social media on Thursday, January 11th, where they apologized for hurting Hindu religious sentiments in their film ‘Annapoorani.’ The letter dated January 9th is written on Zee Studio’s letterhead and addressed to the Vishwa Hindu Parishad.
According to the letter, Zee has urged M/s Trident Arts, the film’s co-producers, to address the problematic parts in the film and for Netflix to remove the movie from its OTT platform until it is not modified. Controversies surround Nayanthara’s Annapoorani
On Thursday, January 11, Netflix removed the movie from the OTT platform. Much criticism was directed at the film on social media for its anti-Hindu content. The film was alleged to have encouraged conversion to Islam, distorted the revered Hindu deity Bhagwan Ram, and offended Hindu religious sentiments.
Up until yesterday, the movie was on Netflix and had a description that read: ‘The daughter of a temple cook goes against her family’s wishes to serve non-vegetarian dishes to demonstrate her cooking skill.’
Annapoorani, which premiered on Netflix on December 29th, 2023, is the 75th film starring Tamil actress Nayanthara. Trident Arts, Zee Studios, and Naad Studios produced the movie.
