The recent film Viswam, starring Gopichand and directed by Srinu Vaitla, has faced a familiar challenge at the box office despite high hopes and the creators’ promises of a renewed approach. Gopichand and Vaitla actively promoted the film with Vaitla notably stating, “I have changed, so will my film’s result,” suggesting a departure from his previous style, particularly in comedy. However, despite some enhanced comedy and strong action scenes, the film struggled to make a substantial impact.
The release of Viswam ’s teaser and trailer initially sparked interest, giving fans hope that Vaitla’s new direction might lead to a fresh viewing experience. The inclusion of Kavya Thapar added glamor, but the overall outcome fell short of expectations, leading to a mixed reception among audiences.
In light of this, the film’s OTT release strategy has reportedly shifted. After its theatrical release on October 11 for Dussehra, Viswam is now set to arrive on Amazon Prime Video during the Diwali holiday weekend. The platform secured the streaming rights for ₹12 crores, and an official announcement is anticipated soon.
As seen with similar films, Viswam may find a more receptive audience in the OTT space, where the convenience of streaming often attracts viewers who might have missed it in theaters. Only time will reveal if Viswam resonates better with the OTT audience than it did on the big screen.
