Distributors are going crazy over Varanasi, especially overseas buyers, who believe the film can deliver never-before-seen numbers for an Indian film in international markets, such as North America. Although the producers have not officially opened the business yet, distributors are already approaching them with record-breaking offers.
The latest buzz is that a distributor has reportedly offered ₹100 crore for the North American rights of Varanasi. This would mean the film needs to gross over $20 million in the USA alone just to break even. Even after receiving such a massive offer, the makers have not locked the deal and are still holding back from opening the business.
Varanasi’s Hype in the Trade is Unprecedented
Typically, producers would immediately close such record offers by taking advances. However, driven by strong confidence in the film, the producers are not committing to any deal yet, despite the unprecedented numbers being quoted.
Till now, no Indian film has received an outright ₹100 crore+ offer from the distributors for the entire overseas market, but Varanasi is reportedly getting that figure from North America alone.
