Mahesh Babu and Rajamouli’s Varanasi is the biggest project in Indian cinema, which targets international markets, and was announced for summer 2027 as the release date. The film shoot is in progress now, and the movie has already created a big anticipation with its announcement event.
The filmmakers are said to be in talks with OTT giant Netflix for streaming rights for all languages. Pushpa 2 is the biggest OTT deal till now in Indian cinema, and Varanasi makers are said to have quoted 25% higher than that.
Reportedly, the amount in discussion is a base price, and based on theatrical performance, the amount will be increased. This base price and the link with the theatrical performance are the new strategy from the OTT platforms, and all are following the same approach now.
Can Varanasi get huge profits with the new OTT strategy?
Now, movies are finding it difficult to secure major OTT deals compared to the past. However, Netflix has reportedly shown significant interest in the Rajamouli and Mahesh Babu film, likely due to the success of Rajamouli’s previous film, RRR, on the platform, and as mentioned, Varanasi targets both Indian and international languages.
