Ram Pothineni is a back with an image makeover with ‘The Warrior’. This is the first time he’s playing a cop on screen and from the trailers, the movie is a typical commercial potboiler. After a slew of unsuccessful films in the last couple of months, all hopes are riding on this film to pull out industry from its slumber. But, does it have enough power to draw crowds? Let’s find out

Story: Set in Kurnool, The Warrior is a fight between the crime lord of the city Guru (Aadhi) and Sathya ( Ram). Sathya is a medico who later turns police to fight the injustice and finish Sathya from Kurnool. What happens when the innocent and law-abiding Sathya turns into a cop bent on destroying Guru’s world is what The Warrior is about.

Performances: The movie has only one core point and that is the rivalry between Aadhi and Ram. Both the actors have done a decent roles but there is nothing special to write about. Aadhi looks menacing in his negative role and his scenes with Ram in are well conceived. Krithi Shetty who plays Sathya’s love interest has no substantial role in the film and is utilized just in the songs. Nadhiya as Sathya’s mother also has a limited role. As the film is bilingual, her acting is often overshadowed by terrible lip sync and dialogue mismatch.

Analysis: Lingusamy is known for commercial entertainers and over the years has given Tamil cinema some excellent commercial entertainers. However, its about time he reinvents himself as stories like The Warrior scream predictability right from first scene. The Warrior is quite loud, repetitive and poorly conceived on paper. Commercial entertainers bank on screenplay and thrills and both are dearly missed in this film. The movie sees a downward graph after the interval and despite some hight octane action sequences, you might feel disconnected because story failed to draw you in the first place.

Plus Points:

  • Few action scenes
  • Ram and Aadhi

Minus Points:

  • Screenplay
  • Predictable plot
  • BGM
  • Direction

Verdict: The Warrior is already seeing low occupancy across the Telugu states as well as Tamil Nadu and with rains continuing all over, the film is expected to be a washout soon. Some crisp editing and a better screenplay would have definitely helped the film.
