While most major Indian cities boast IMAX screens, Hyderabad moviegoers will have to wait a bit longer for this immersive movie experience.
Prasads Multiplex, once synonymous with IMAX in Hyderabad, converted its screen to a PCX screen due to several factors. The digitization of filmmaking and content delivery, coupled with rising costs and ticket price restrictions in Telangana, made IMAX less viable for the theater.
Recent social media buzz suggested that the wait might finally be over, with rumors pointing to an IMAX screen opening at the soon-to-be-launched ART Cinemas, a collaboration between Raviteja and Asian Cinemas. However, these rumors were quickly squashed by the IMAX India Vice President, who confirmed on social media that this is not the case. He replied to a user’s query with a simple “No, it’s not true!”
So, Hyderabadi film enthusiasts who dream of experiencing cinema on a grander scale will have to hold onto their patience. While there’s no official confirmation of future plans, the wait for an IMAX theater in Hyderabad continues.
