The Raja Saab Gets NO IMAX Release in the USA

Prabhas and Maruthi's The Raja Saab was expected to be screened in IMAX format worldwide, but the latest news is that the film will not be released in the large format, much to the disappointment of fans.

Prabhas and Maruthi’s The Raja Saab was expected to be screened in IMAX format worldwide, but the latest news is that the film will not be released in the large format, much to the disappointment of fans.

Prathyangira Cinemas, the overseas distributor for the film, has announced that James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash has locked in a four-week deal with IMAX, preventing any competing films from being shown during that time.

According to the distributor who announced it officially on X (Twitter), IMAX’s support for The Raja Saab is not possible because of exclusivity.

The exciting news is that the horror comedy will be offered in PLF, DBOX, and various specialty formats. Those formats remain booked with Avatar 3 for four weeks, yet the distributor confirmed that the team will continue to strive for as many special-format screenings as they can secure.

Avatar: Fire and Ash, highly anticipated by fans, will release worldwide on December 19, 2025. The release date for The Raja Saab is set for January 9, 2026. This situation has effectively placed the Prabhas starrer right in IMAX’s exclusive phase for the Hollywood production.

Even in India, the IMAX Screens of The Raja Saab will be impacted by the Avatar 3 release. Meanwhile, the film’s USA advance bookings opened recently, and the trend is better than expectations, with close to $75K pre-sales for premieres already.
