The Kerala Story Trailer Sparks Controversy and Debate Online

The trailer of The Kerala Story released on April 26th has sparked controversy and debate online for its storyline. The film by Vipul Amrutlal Shah aims to tell the tale of how women from the Indian state of Kerala women were tricked and trafficked to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in the conflict zone of Syria. Earlier, the teaser of the film also caused the same controversy and debate on social media.

The film highlights some cases of how “love jihad” has been used by ISIS to attract 32,000 women to Syria. The trailer shows how men were brainwashed to woo Hindu and Christian women of Kerala for love, convert them to Islam and convince them to join ISIS and other Islamic war zones. The shocking incidents occurred between 2018 and 2019, when a growing number of young people in Kerala were under the influence of the Islamic State. On May 5, 2023, The Kerala Story will be released in theaters worldwide.

The story of Kerala features Adah Sharma in the lead role, playing the converted Muslim woman, Fatima BA, based on a Hindu nurse, who had suffered the same fate. The film also features Yogita Bihani, Sonia Balani and Siddhi Idnani in the crucial roles. The Kerala Story is directed by Sudipto Sen and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah for Sunshine Pictures Private Limited.

The movie is based on a tragedy where about 32,000 women went missing in Kerala. They were reportedly brainwashed and attracted to Muslim men, who married and converted them, radicalized them, and then deployed them to terrorist missions in India and overseas on behalf of ISIS.
