Vijay is undoubtedly the number 1 star in Kollywood at the moment. Due to his huge market, he is the highest-paid star as well having received mind-boggling remunerations for his recent films. It has been officially revealed that Vijay’s remuneration is in the range of Rs 200 crores.
These high remunerations mean huge production costs and pressure on the makers. If we look at GOAT collections in its 1st week, the film collected 330 Cr gross and is heading towards 400 Cr gross in the full run which is equivalent to Rs 200 Cr share. This means the total box office collections will just suffice Vijay’s remuneration.
The production cost and other cast & crew remunerations have to be covered through non-theatrical businesses like OTT, satellite, and audio rights.
This is not just the case with Vijay, even Ajith, and Rajinikanth are also taking huge remunerations, leading to negligible profits. Compared to this, some Telugu stars have a bigger market but their remunerations are smaller than Tamil top heroes. These mind-boggling numbers in the form of remuneration directly impact the film’s budget and quality and is making film making an extremely risky business for producers.
