Thangalaan starring Vikram and directed by Pa. Ranjith released on 15th August worldwide. The film received okayish reviews and performed underwhelmingly at the box office. The team aggressiely promoted the film in Telugu as well. The reception was also the same here. But the team celebrated success meets after the release and released the 100 crore poster as well today. This is very strange behaviour.
The team seems to be very much desperate about the 100 crore milestone to prove it as a success. But in reality the film’s collections are in the range of 75 crores. Thangalaan openings were very good but it failed to continue the same momentum for the first and second weekends. It saw a big drop after the first weekend itself. The film will anywhere be average at the box office.
Previously Maharaja makers too did the same by releasing the poster of 100 crore which didn’t happen in reality. Thangalaan seems to be following them in this aspect. This is not a good culture to promote fake collections officially. This may happen with the coming films as well if not stopped. Actor Vikram too endorsed this on his official X/Twitter account along with the makers.
