Telugu audience not at all interested in Tamil’s Pride Ponniyin Selvan

Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan 1 was released last year amidst the massive buzz and managed to create new records in Tamil Nadu. The film also performed brilliantly overseas. It had a decent run in other states but not so great in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Ponniyin Selvan 1 managed to become an all-time blockbuster in Kollywood and crossed the Rs 500 crore mark. When the film was released on OTT, makers believed that it would create a similar mark on digital platforms just like KGF. But even in its OTT release has received cold reception quite also the film is receiving poor reviews from the audience.

Solid OTT reception was much required for building great expectations for the film’s second part. But now, it looks like the sequel will not have hype from other languages that Baahubali2 or KGF2 enjoyed across Indian cinema.

Something similar happened with the TV premiere as well where the Telugu audience showed little interest in this Tamil blockbuster replicating the film’s performance in Telugu states.

The film has performed very low numbers at the box office with around just Rs 10Cr share. And now, the audience is even not interested to watch the movie on Television. Ponniyin Selvan 1 delivered a disastrous rating of 2.73 which shows the Telugu audience is not at all interested to watch this film.
