In a major boost for Kollywood, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has officially allowed cinema theatres across the state to screen five shows daily for newly released Tamil films.
According to the new order from the Chief Minister’s Office, all fresh Tamil films can run five shows per day for an entire week from their release date. Theatres are also permitted to screen five shows automatically on Saturdays, Sundays, local festival days, and public holidays.
The move eliminates the need for theatres to seek special government permission for the fifth show. Previously, cinemas were restricted to four shows daily, and adding a fifth required bureaucratic approval from licensing authorities.
The announcement has been welcomed by the Tamil film industry, giving filmmakers and distributors more flexibility to maximize box office potential during crucial opening weeks and festive periods.
With this order, CM Vijay has ensured extended visibility for Tamil cinema, strengthening weekend and festival releases while supporting the industry’s growth across Tamil Nadu.
