The producers of Lakshmi-Lawrence Kadhal, a Tamil film have filed an appeal in the Madras High Court after the CBFC refused to grant certification for public screening. Not only Thalapathy Vijay fans, but Tamil cinema audiences as a whole were shocked when the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) suddenly stalled the release of the Tamil film Jana Nayagan. Now, another Tamil movie has faced a similar issue.

Another Tamil Movie’s Release Halted by Censor Board

Both the examining committee and the revising committee of the CBFC recommended that the film should not be certified. Justice K. Govindarajan Thilakavadi of the Madras High Court has given the CBFC time until February 3, 2026, to file its counter affidavit in response to the appeal filed by the production house.

The producer explained that the film aims to convey that classical art forms like Bharatanatyam are universal and not limited to any particular religion. According to him, anyone can learn and perform these art forms, irrespective of their faith. He argued that this message does not justify a complete ban on the film.

Lakshmi-Lawrence Kadhal is a Tamil film written and directed by Lemurien Youreka, with the story by Babu Moses.
