Suriya’s cult blockbuster Veedokkade is all set to return to theatres on July 22 as a special birthday re-release. The makers have announced that the film will be screened in a 4K restored version, with advance bookings now open. Originally released in 2009 as the Telugu dubbed version of the Tamil blockbuster Ayan, the Suriya Veedokkade re-release marks another high-profile return of a beloved classic to the big screen.
About Veedokkade – The 2009 Action Blockbuster
Directed by K. V. Anand, Veedokkade stars Suriya in the lead alongside Tamannaah Bhatia, with Prabhu, Akashdeep Saigal, Jagan and Karunas in key roles. The film features music by Harris Jayaraj, whose soundtrack became a chartbuster, while the stylish visuals were captured by K. V. Anand himself. The action thriller follows Deva, a resourceful young man caught in the dangerous world of international smuggling, where he finds himself locked in a deadly battle against a powerful criminal syndicate while trying to protect those closest to him.
Why Veedokkade Remains a Cult Classic
Upon its original release, Ayan emerged as one of the biggest Tamil blockbusters of 2009, with Veedokkade also enjoying a successful run among Telugu audiences. Over the years, the film has earned cult status for its gripping screenplay, slick action sequences, memorable songs and Suriya’s charismatic performance.
The Suriya Veedokkade re-release follows a growing trend of birthday re-releases, similar to Rajinikanth's Padayappa returning to theatres and Nagarjuna's Shiva getting a 4K re-release. With the 4K restoration coinciding with the actor’s birthday celebrations, fans now have another opportunity to experience one of his most iconic films with enhanced picture quality on the big screen.
