Suriya – The first South Indian actor to achieve this feat

After impressive performances in the last year and receiving amazing reception for his brief appearance as Rolex in Vikram, Suriya has bagged another feather in his cap. He has been invited to be a part of the Oscars panel by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The panel includes eminent cinema personalities from across the world.

On Tuesday, the Academy released the list of 397 distinguished artists and executives it had invited to join the organization in 2022. The Academy said the new members had been selected on the basis of their professional qualifications and their “ongoing commitment to representation, inclusion and equity”.

With this, he has now become the first South Indian Actor to be invited to join the prestigious Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Suriya is one of the highest-paid actors in Kollywood and has a massive fan following beyond Tamil Nadu as well. Of late, he has been focussing on cinema with social content as well. He received massive critical acclaim for his work in Jai Bhim. Incidentally, Jai Bhim was among 276 films that competed in the Oscar race but failed to get a nomination.

According to him In his view, Jai Bhim did not compete in the appropriate category and hence could not make an impact. While the movie might have failed to make a mark at the Oscars but Suriya being invited as a member of the Oscars panel is indeed a special moment.
