This marks the second collaboration between Suriya and T.J. Gnanavel after their critically acclaimed film Jai Bhim, which premiered directly on OTT in 2021 and won numerous accolades for addressing social justice issues. The reunion of this powerful combination has created significant anticipation among fans and industry observers alike.

Karuppu Sets New Milestone for Suriya

Suriya’s recent release Karuppu has become his highest-grossing film ever, crossing the ₹289 crore mark worldwide and establishing itself as the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2026. Released on May 15, 2026, the fantasy action film directed by RJ Balaji and co-starring Trisha Krishnan has given Suriya tremendous momentum heading into his next project.

About Doctor Thiruvengadam Veeraraghavan

Dr. Thiruvengadam Veeraraghavan (1949-1950 – August 16, 2020) was a legendary Indian physician from Chennai, widely celebrated as the “Two-Rupee Doctor” for dedicating nearly five decades of his life to providing nearly free, high-quality medical care to underprivileged communities in Sri Kalyanapuram and Erukkancherry in North Chennai.

After completing his medical education from Government Stanley Medical College, Dr. Veeraraghavan treated patients for a nominal fee of just ₹2 to ₹5, or sometimes free of cost for those who couldn’t afford even that small amount. While he worked as an industrial medical officer in a corporate hospital for regular income, his private practice became a selfless mission of service to society.

In recognition of his extraordinary dedication to healthcare for the poor, Dr. Veeraraghavan was posthumously honored with the Padma Shri in 2021, India’s fourth-highest civilian award.
