Dulquer Salmaan starrer Sita Ramam hit the screens today amidst good positive buzz. Director Hanu Raghavapudi has expressed great confidence in the project and stated that this is his best work so far. The film has a great star cast along with a bunch of talented support actors. The trailer has also looked promising. But, does this film have enough to give Tollywood a much-needed hit? Let’s find out
Story: The story follows Afreen’s (Rashmika) quest to deliver a letter to Ram (Dulquer Salmaan) written by Sita (Mrunal Thakur) Ram is a soldier in Indian Army who mysteriously disappears after being sent on a mission to Pakistan. What happened to him and how is Vishnu Sharma (Sumanth) connected to this? Will Ram ever be found is what the story is about.
Performances: Dulquer Salmaan looks charming as ever and has yet again delivered a mature performance. His screen presence as a soldier from 1965 is one of the biggest assets to the film. Mrunal Thakur as Sita looks good on screen but has a long way ahead before establishing herself as a performer. Rashmika has a solid character in the film and is the key to the proceedings. She has delivered a great performance ably supported by Tharun Bhascker. Sumanth as an Indian Army officer has also immersed himself well into the character and has been given one of his finest characters and has done justice to the role.
Analysis: Hanu Raghavapudi has definitely stood on his promise and few screenplay glitches aside, has delivered a strong story on screen. The film is engaging and if you ignore a few lags in first half, it has all the elements of a successful film. The production values are top notch and so are visuals by PS Vinod which have shown the Kashmir valley in the most beautiful way. The film might appear slightly lengthy and for a class film for some sections and editing could have been crispier.
Plus Points:
- Dulquer Salmaan and Rashmika
- Visuals
- Engaging Second Half
Minus Points:
- Slow screenplay
- Editing
- Songs
Verdict: Overall Hanu Raghavapudi has delivered a decent drama with all the elements falling in right place. This is the director’s strongest work and good word of mouth might take the film to box-office success.
