Kamal Hassan is undoubtedly a stupendous performer. But that is not the case when it comes to his commercial value, or, in simple terms, his’market’. Unlike Rajinikanth, this veteran actor chose to star in creative experimental films over commercial potboilers, which affected his market negatively.
But all credit to Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Vikram (2022), ‘Ulaganayagan’ has finally scored a commercial blockbuster. In addition to Tamil, the film performed exceedingly well in Telugu, beating the likes of Rajinikanth‘s films. Now that he’s back on track, his next venture, ‘Thug Life’, is enjoying great offers.
Directed by Mani Rathnam, this action drama film marks Kamal’s collaboration with the director after the groundbreaking gangster drama film Nayakan (1987). According to the latest update, Thug Life‘s overseas theatrical rights have been sold for a mammoth INR 63 crore. Bagged by ‘AP International’ and ‘Home Screen Entertainment’, this is the biggest sum offered for any Tamil film, beating ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay’s Leo (2023).
