Srinu Vaitla, once among the most sought-after directors in Telugu cinema, is gearing up for another shot at a comeback. The filmmaker, who delivered memorable blockbusters such as Venky, Dhee, Ready, King and Dookudu, has struggled to regain his former momentum in recent years. His last outing, Viswam (2024), arrived after a six-year directorial gap but failed to make a significant impact at the box office. Now, Vaitla is teaming up with Sharwanand for a new commercial entertainer, hoping to return to the zone of comedy and family-friendly entertainment that once made him one of TFI’s biggest directors.

Film Launch and Production Details

The untitled Sharwanand starrer was formally launched with a grand pooja ceremony in Hyderabad, with Anil Sunkara producing it under AK Entertainments. According to reports, the film features a time travel concept with science fiction elements woven into the entertainment fabric. The project is being described as a full-fledged commercial family entertainer designed around Vaitla’s trademark comedy style.

The film is expected to go on floors in July 2026, with the makers targeting a lucrative Sankranti 2027 theatrical window. Sharwanand, who is coming off a positive phase with films such as Naari Naari Naduma Murari and Biker, has confirmed his commitment to the project. Interestingly, Mythri Movie Makers initially committed to the project before Anil Sunkara’s AK Entertainments took over production responsibilities.

High Stakes for Vaitla’s Comeback

For Vaitla, the stakes are particularly high. The filmmaker’s brand of comedy once dominated Telugu cinema, but changing audience tastes and a string of underwhelming outings have pushed him away from the top tier. His struggles to return to form have been well-documented, making this collaboration with Sharwanand a crucial opportunity to rediscover the magic that produced some of Telugu cinema’s most beloved comedy blockbusters.

The new collaboration gives Vaitla an opportunity to return to his strongest territory while working with a versatile actor who has already shown an appetite for family-oriented entertainers. With Sankranti 2027 offering a competitive yet lucrative theatrical window, all eyes will be on whether the Vaitla-Sharwanand combination can deliver the comeback both the director and audiences have been waiting for.
