Written and directed by Pa. Ranjith, Sarpatta Parambarai is a sports drama loosely inspired by the Rocky series. Starring Arya in the lead role, the film was released directly on Prime Video, where it received highly positive reviews and enjoyed excellent viewership. The film’s compelling boxing drama and strong performances turned it into a major success on the streaming platform.
Following the film’s critical acclaim, a sequel titled Sarpatta Parambarai: Round 2 was officially announced in 2023. However, the project failed to materialise for quite some time, with several reports even claiming that the makers had shelved the sequel. This led to considerable uncertainty surrounding the highly anticipated second instalment.
As per the latest update, the project is finally set to go on floors this October. Neelam Productions and K9 Studios have officially announced Sarpatta Parambarai: Round 2, bringing back several key members of the original cast. Dushara Vijayan as Mariyamma, Pasupathy as Rangan Vaathiyar, John Kokken as Vembuli and Shabeer Kallarakkal as Dancing Rose are set to reprise their respective roles, alongside the rest of the cast.
