Sardar 2 has ended its box office run with a massive debacle. Made on the biggest budget of Karthi’s career, and arriving as a sequel to a film audiences genuinely loved, Sardar 2 failed to meet even the minimum expectations riding on it. Poor word of mouth and weak reviews followed soon after release, and audiences ended up rejecting the film outright.

For a closing gross of ₹23 Cr, the actual distributor share works out to somewhere around a single digit figure, close to ₹9 Cr. Once theatre expenses, distributor commissions and theatrical deficits are factored in, there is practically no share left for the makers or investors. Whatever money went in has effectively been lost entirely, a level of theatrical loss that is genuinely rare to see.
The original Sardar had collected more than ₹90 Cr gross worldwide back in 2022 and was a clear commercial success. Against that backdrop, and on a considerably bigger budget for the sequel, this closing number makes Sardar 2 stand out as the biggest disaster of Karthi’s career by a wide margin.
