Prabhas’ Salaar was undoubtedly the most anticipated and hyped movie of 2023. The film saw several delays and a major release postponement and was finally released on 22nd December amidst massive euphoria and a competing release from Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki.
Salaar was released amidst huge expectations and everyone believed that it would be the highest-grosser of 2023. Many even expected this Prashant Neel movie to be an easy 1000Cr grosser if it got positive word of mouth before release. Much to the maker’s delight, Salaar received positive word of mouth but did not collect as per expectations
In Telangana, the movie has collected around Rs 104Cr gross and Andhra Pradesh has contributed around 112Cr gross. In Tamil Nadu, the gross is around 21Cr while Kerala collection stands at 17Cr. Karnataka, on the other hand, fetched Salaar 41 Cr while the film grossed around Rs 180 crores from north India markets.
The Total all India gross is 475 Cr while the overseas gross is around 125 Cr bringing up the worldwide Salaar gross to Rs 600 crores approx.
Salaar’s breakeven was initially around Rs 800Cr before release but due few negotiations and changes in business ratios, the breakeven changed to around Rs 720Cr gross. So the recovery is around 83% and the film has settled with below-average status.
Salaar achieved big profits only in the Nizam region and it registered good numbers in the USA as well. It failed to deliver big numbers in other territories and couldn’t deliver the profits that were expected in many regions. In Andhra Pradesh, all buyers ended up with losses much to everyone’s surprise.
