Rukmini Vasanth Files Cyber Crime Complaint Over AI Misuse

Actress Rukmini Vasanth has lodged a cyber crime complaint with the Cyber Crime Police Station in Bengaluru after objectionable AI-generated images and videos portraying her in a derogatory manner were circulated on social media.

According to a press release issued by the Karnataka State Cyber Command, a case was registered based on Rukmini Vasanth’s complaint under various sections of the Information Technology Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The Rukmini Vasanth cyber crime case has brought renewed attention to the misuse of AI technology for creating fake content targeting public figures.

Case Details and FIR Registration

During the investigation, authorities found that AI technology had allegedly been used to create and spread fake visual content aimed at damaging the actress’s reputation. The cyber police stated that the circulation of such content not only harmed her public image but also violated her privacy and caused mental harassment.

The investigation has identified 29 social media accounts involved in creating and circulating the AI-generated images and videos, including accounts on Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and Facebook. Police have traced several accounts to users based in other states.

Investigation and Arrests

A special investigation team was formed to trace those responsible for the cyber crime. Based on the evidence collected, three individuals were arrested in connection with the case. Police also seized three mobile phones that were allegedly used in the commission of the offence.

The accused have been produced before the court, and further investigation is currently underway. Similar to the Lavanya Tripathi cyber complaint case, authorities are taking strict action against online harassment targeting actresses.

Growing Threat of AI Deepfake Technology

The Rukmini Vasanth cyber crime case has once again highlighted the growing threat posed by AI-generated deepfake content. While AI offers numerous benefits, its misuse for creating fake images and videos of public figures has become a major challenge for law enforcement agencies.

Industry members and cyber experts have repeatedly called for stricter regulations and stronger action against those who exploit technology to harass individuals online. Recent cases, including police action in the Anasuya Bharadwaj online abuse case, demonstrate that cyber crime units across Karnataka and neighboring states are increasingly vigilant.

As AI tools become increasingly accessible, cases like this serve as a reminder that technological advancements must be accompanied by accountability and responsible usage. The Karnataka Cyber Command has emphasized that online anonymity is not absolute, and those who misuse technology will face legal consequences.
