Rishab Shetty : OTT platforms are not buying Kannada films

Rishab Shetty said that OTT platforms are not buying Kannada films. Kannada cinema is waiting for OTT platforms to open their doors for it, as stated by the Kannada actor-director. Rishab Shetty said that OTT platforms are not buying Kannada films.

Shetty, who spoke to reporters on the sidelines of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) on Tuesday, mentioned that Kannada movies used to generate revenue by taking part in initiatives such as the NFDC Film Bazaar.

“But after the COVID-19 pandemic and due to OTT platforms, the markets have collapsed. The OTT platforms are refusing to accept Kannada films because one commercial film (from Kannada) backfired,” the Kantara actor-director said.

“Now, OTT platforms are saying that they are not open for Kannada films. That is really bad. Just because of one film, you cannot say that there is no market for the film or there are no subscribers,” he added.

“OTTs are saying that they will take time to accept Kannada films. We are waiting for their doors to open,” he said. Rishab Shetty said that OTT platforms are not buying Kannada films.

Rishab Shetty was praised for his writing, direction, and acting in Kantara, a Kannada period action thriller released in 2022.

The movie, which is being shown at IFFI 2023 as a part of its international competition, centers around the fictional village of Dakshina Kannada and follows a Kambala champion (Shetty) who is at odds with an upstanding Forest Range officer (Murali).

Kantara: Chapter 1, which is the prequel to the blockbuster hit, is something which the actor is looking forward to. Kantara Prequel’s first look was revealed by its makers on Thursday.
