Rentrak in Telangana?

All these developments took place just before the release of Hari Hara Veera Mallu, starring AP Deputy Chief Minister and Power Star Pawan Kalyan, which made it political because of a few reports. The names of some of the Telugu producers who are ruling the distribution of the film in the Telugu states have come out. There has been a debate in Filmnagar that they are the ones who are leading the story by calling for a shutdown of theaters. Quickly, this news spread in film circles that four big producers are behind this issue. The issue went to the Andhra Pradesh government, which stated that the issue will be taken seriously, and it asked for a probe into the entire scenario of the shutdown of theaters and other developments. Andhra Pradesh Cinematography Minister Kandula Durgesh has ordered an inquiry into the decision taken by exhibitors and distributors to close down theaters on June 1. There are also reports in the media that Durgesh will come to Hyderabad and meet big producers like Dil Raju and Suresh Babu. However, the Telugu States theater strike has been called off, as the Telugu Film Chamber responded to the controversy. On May 24, the producers held a meeting with distributors and exhibitors at the Hyderabad Film Chamber. On this occasion, the problems and difficulties of the theater owners were discussed. There will be no theater shutdown on June 1, and the theaters will function as usual on that day.

Tollywood Producer Dil Raju made a few interesting statements in his speech during the Trailer launch event of Thammudu. Thammudu is the latest film of Actor Nithiin directed by Venu Sri Ram. The film also stars Sapthami Gowda and Laya in pivotal roles. Dil Raju said that he had instructed the PR team not to opt paid views on YouTube as this could kill the real reach of the film’s content.

He also added that there was a need to stop boasting about the fake box office numbers and YouTube records. He also opined that there should be a tracking system on the likes of Rentrak in Telangana so that there will be original collections and figures. Rentrak is a global media measurement and research company serving the entertainment industry.

This is indeed a welcoming gesture from the Producer. However, we need to see if this gets on track, as Actors and Producers must fall in line to encourage such a system. Boasting box office numbers became a usual ritual for all the Actors and makers. So, expecting such a system in Tollywood or the Indian Film Industry will be a distant dream.
