#RC17 – Everything We Know So Far

Sukumar’s first collaboration with Ram Charan gave Telugu cinema Rangasthalam, a cult blockbuster celebrated for its storytelling and performances. When the duo decided to reunite, a sequel was reportedly considered but later dropped over concerns about its pan-Indian appeal. Unlike Sukumar’s Pushpa franchise, Rangasthalam was primarily a Telugu-language film, and a sequel might have limited its reach. With Sukumar now among India’s biggest directors and Ram Charan an established pan-Indian star following RRR, the duo are reportedly exploring a fresh story with wider national and international appeal. Fans also believe that a landmark film like Rangasthalam should remain untouched for decades, as recreating its magic would be difficult. Consequently, expectations are high for an entirely new cinematic experience.

Saiyaara Star in Consideration

Officially announced in March 2024, #RC17 is being produced by Mythri Movie Makers in association with Sukumar Writings. The film’s formal launch is reportedly scheduled for November 1, 2026, in Hyderabad, with regular shooting expected to begin in early 2027. A theatrical release in 2028 is being discussed, although no official date has been announced. Casting speculation has generated considerable buzz, with Saiyaara actress Aneet Padda and Dhurandhar actress Sara Arjun linked to the female lead’s role. However, neither actress has been officially confirmed. Ram Charan is also reportedly preparing for a physical transformation, with the makers working on a distinctive look for his character. The supporting cast and key technical crew members remain undisclosed.

The Sukumar-DSP Era Ends

The music department has also generated considerable buzz, with Devi Sri Prasad named as the composer in the original announcement, while recent reports suggest that Anirudh Ravichander may have joined the project. Ram Charan is reportedly said to have recommended Anirudh to director Sukumar, although the final music-director lineup remains unconfirmed. Unlike Rangasthalam and the Pushpa franchise, #RC17 is expected to be set in modern-day Coastal Andhra. The film is said to feature grey-shaded characters, a recurring element in Sukumar’s filmography, with themes of friendship, family feuds and lineage forming the backbone of the narrative. Meanwhile, Vijay Sethupathi and Sarathkumar are reportedly being considered for a supporting role involving a father figure to Ram Charan’s character. With morally complex characters and layered family dynamics at its core, #RC17 is expected to offer a fresh setting and narrative, although the makers are yet to officially confirm its storyline, supporting cast and genre.
