Ranabaali Clears Censor, This Censor Report Surprises Everyone

It is a U/A Certificate for Vijay Deverakonda's Ranabaali

Vijay Deverakonda’s Ranabaali has cleared its censor formalities without any hurdles, and the result has taken many by surprise. The film has received a U/A certificate, with its runtime locked at 170 minutes, or 2 hours 50 minutes.

Going by the intense glimpses and trailer released so far, a lot of people expected Ranabaali to get an A certificate. The U/A now hints that there could be a lot more to the film than what has been shown.

Blood on Screen, But U/A on Paper

The promotional content for Ranabaali has focused heavily on violence and intensity, with Vijay Deverakonda playing a fierce warrior who takes on British officers in Rayalaseema. For a film sold this way, a U/A certificate suggests that the action is not the whole story.

It points to a film with more drama and storytelling than raw violence. Instead of depending only on intense action, Ranabaali is likely to rely on its story and emotions to carry the audience.

Rahul Sankrityan’s Secret Weapon Is Emotion

This is where director Rahul Sankrityan’s track record matters. His last film, Shyam Singha Roy with Nani, was also a period drama, and its flashback block became the soul of the film. That portion worked not because of action, but because of its deep storytelling and strong emotional connect. Audiences still remember it as one of the best period portions in recent Telugu cinema.

The same is now expected from Ranabaali. With the U/A certificate and a 170-minute runtime, fans believe Rahul Sankrityan has given the film the same emotional depth, with the drama and story getting as much importance as the action.

Dasara Families Just Got a Ticket In

The U/A certificate also works in the film’s favour commercially. Ranabaali releases during the Dasara festival season, when families head to theatres in big numbers. An A certificate would have kept a large part of that audience away. With U/A, and the team not going for ticket hikes in the Telugu States, the film is now open to everyone.

Three Days to Go, and the Buzz Is Turning

Ranabaali releases worldwide on October 16 in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada, with USA premieres on October 15. The film stars Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna, is produced by Mythri Movie Makers, and has music by Ajay-Atul.

The pre-release buzz has been on the lower side, but the film’s USA pre-sales have started picking up in the last couple of days. If the content delivers the kind of emotional storytelling the U/A certificate hints at, word of mouth during the Dasara holidays could change the film’s fortunes quickly.
