Ramayana is picking up big momentum at the box office. But even for the biggest-budget film in Indian cinema, one record looks very hard to break: Pushpa 2’s all-time first week total.
The Record to Beat
Pushpa 2 holds the record for the biggest first week ever for an Indian film, with ₹965 Cr gross worldwide.
Dhurandhar 2 came close with ₹940 Cr gross. It could have broken the record if it had released in the Middle East, but the film was banned there, and it fell short.
Biggest First Weeks (Worldwide Gross)
- Pushpa 2: ₹965 Cr
- Dhurandhar 2: ₹940 Cr
Where Ramayana Stands
Ramayana collected close to ₹230 Cr gross worldwide in its first two days. Today, the film is posting a bigger number than its opening day, which is a very positive sign. It is expected to collect around ₹150 Cr gross on Day 3, taking its total to the ₹380 Cr range.
Close to ₹600 Cr in Four Days
To break Pushpa 2’s record, Ramayana needs to collect close to ₹600 Cr more in the remaining four days of its first week. That means around ₹150 Cr gross every single day.
Ramayana’s Pushpa 2 Target
- Pushpa 2’s 1st week: ₹965 Cr
- Ramayana after 3 days: ₹380 Cr (approx.)
- Needed in 4 days: Close to ₹600 Cr
- Needed per day: Around ₹150 Cr
Why It’s Tough
That’s a huge ask. Overseas collections usually slow down after the weekend, which makes daily totals of around ₹150 Cr very difficult to sustain on weekdays.
The Diwali Wildcard
There is one big factor in Ramayana’s favour: Diwali. The post-Diwali Monday and Tuesday are some of the biggest box office days of the year, and if the film goes truly bonkers during the festival, anything is possible.
Heading for ₹850 Cr
At the current momentum, Ramayana is on track for a first week of around ₹850 Cr gross worldwide. That would be a massive number, but still more than ₹100 Cr short of Pushpa 2.
Only an unbelievable surge over the Diwali days can push it into Pushpa 2’s range.
A Big Week Either Way
Even if it falls short of the record, an ₹850 Cr first week would put Ramayana firmly on course for ₹1,000 Cr before its second weekend, and set up the long run it needs to reach its ₹2,000 Cr target.
