Ever since Puri Jagannadh’s Pokiri returned to theatres and emerged as a successful re-release, Telugu cinema has witnessed a growing trend of bringing back fan-favourite classics to the big screen. Films such as Ram Charan’s Orange, Mahesh Babu’s Murari, and Pawan Kalyan‘s Gabbar Singh attracted impressive crowds and proved that nostalgia remains a powerful box-office force.
Joining that list now is Ram Gopal Varma’s acclaimed action thriller Rakta Charitra (2010), which is set for a grand re-release on July 17 this year. Featuring Vivek Oberoi and Suriya in pivotal roles inspired by Andhra Pradesh’s infamous faction rivals, the film was both a commercial success and a critically discussed project. Over the years, it has also earned a strong cult following among movie lovers.
Like many recent Telugu re-releases, Rakta Charitra will return to cinemas in a visually enhanced 4K format, offering audiences a refreshed viewing experience. Interestingly, this marks only the second Ram Gopal Varma directorial to receive a theatrical re-release, following the successful return of Nagarjuna’s iconic action drama Shiva.
