SS Rajamouli’s RRR, starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR has won the Best Song (Motion Picture) for Naatu Naatu Song at the 80th Golden Globe Awards.
RRR has created history as the first Indian film to earn a Golden Globe. While the win is a first for India, Naatu Naatu ‘s music director MM Keeravani also became the first Golden Globe winner to be played offstage during his acceptance speech.
Keeravani, accepting the award on behalf of other singer-songwriters, said he was “overwhelmed” by the honor. He further said he was happy to share this moment with his wife.
The 80th Golden Globe Awards are being held in Los Angeles on January 11 (IST). The function is being held at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. Indian film RRR has won Best Original Song for Naatu Naatu at the ceremony. Music director MM Keeravani collected the trophy. They also nominated the film for Best Non-English Language Film.
In the Best Non-English Language Film category, RRR is facing competition against Germany’s All Quiet on the Western Front, Argentina’s Argentina 1985, Belgium’s Close, and South Korea’s Decision to Leave.
In the Best Original Song category, ‘Naatu Naatu’ was competing against—‘Carolina’ (Taylor Swift) from Where the Crawdads Sing, ‘Ciao Papa’ (Alexandre Desplat, Roeban Katz, and Guillermo del Toro)—Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, ‘Hold My Hand’ (Lady Gaga, Blood Pop, and Benjamin Rice)—Top Gun: Maverick and ‘Lift Me Up’ (Tems, Rihanna, Ryan Coogler, and Ludwig Göransson)—Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
SS Rajamouli, Ram Charan, Jr NTR and MM Keeravani all took part in a Q&A session at Los Angeles’ Chinese Theaters days before the ceremony. They have stationed the director in LA for the last few months as he is taking part in the Oscar campaign of the film.
