Sankranthi 2022 has been in news from several months ever since RRR, the biggest film of India has announced its release date for January 7th, 2022. Before RRR’s announcement, three big films have already announced their dates. BheemlaNayak for January 12th, SarkaruVaariPaata for January 13th and RadheShyam for January 14th.
SarkaruVaariPaata had so much shoot left when RRR announced its date. It looked difficult for SVP to make it for Sankranthi anyway. With RRR’s announcement, SVP moved officially out of the race. Sankranthi can really accommodate only 2 big films and 1 medium budget film. So, everyone thought that BheemlaNayak will postpone its release leaving the festival for Pan-India films. However, to everyone’s surprise producer of BheemlaNayak continued to release posters or promotional content reiterating the date as 12th January, 2022. With the producer being adamant, distributors were scratching their heads on how to accommodate theatres for three biggies during the festival.
Distributors of RRR have struck a deal with theatres that, if you want to play RRR in your theatre, you need to play it for at least 1 week. No other movie can be played in your theatre. Distributors are making agreements to these terms. No theatre would opt to lose RRR, so BheemlaNayak will hardly have any theatres left for screening. Meanwhile, RadheShyam is releasing on the 14th, which is the 8th day of RRR and also produced by UV Creations who have a strong network of own theatres. So, RadheShyam and RRR don’t really have a problem with their announced dates.
BheemlaNayak on the other hand has no option but to postpone their movie. Apparently, DVV Danayya is meeting with Trivikram to convince him to postpone BheemlaNayak to Shivaratri. Will need to wait and see if this meeting would be successful.
