OTT business turning to be disastrous for the film industry

OTT platforms bring new rules Producers finding it tough to sell the OTT rights of their films Leading OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and JioHotstar have introduced stricter rules when buying digital rights from film producers. They are now less interested in star-driven films and are offering only 40–50% of what they paid in 2024.

The OTT revolution has been the talk of the town lately. Especially Since the Corona Pandemic, there has been a big rise of the OTT platforms. Although it is providing a lot of content and trying to create as many opportunities for aspiring moviemakers and aspirants, the OTT business is perceived as a disastrous effect on the film industry.

With the OTT release deals being closed for 4,5 weeks for almost all films, theater owners are suffering as the movies are running for just 2 weekends even if they become blockbusters. Also, if a movie becomes failure, it is not even running for one week.

Because the theatrical runs of the movies are getting affected, the satellite business also got changed. The satellite partners decreased the price by saying that the OTT release is the reason for TV viewership getting decreased.

Now the OTT platforms themselves are also in a problem and saying that buying movies for big prices is not at all working for them. As per the reports, the OTT platforms also started buying movies on different terms, and it may go even worse in the later period.
