Young Actor Sundeep Kishan comes back with ‘Ooru Peru Bhairavakona’ after almost an year gap in Telugu, pairing with ‘Middle Class Melodies’ fame ‘Varsha Bollamma’ and ‘Kavya Thapar’. This touted supernatural thriller is directed by VI Anand under Hasya Movies production and is presented by ‘Anil Sunkara’ under AK Entertainments. Getting into the proceedings:

Story:

The Movie starts off a with a brief giveaway of the theme of the film followed by the intro scenes. Basava (Sundeep Kishan) is a stuntman trying his luck in films and rides an auto as a side gig. An accidental meetup with Bhoomi (Varsha) followed by his uncle’s obligations, force Basava to kidnap Bhoomi for a day and what follows is a whole fantasy ride in a village called ‘Bhairavakona’. How Basava and his friends make it out of the village forms the crux of the story.

Performances:

Sundeep Kishan does a neat job in a young man’s role justifying and proving his innocence to his love interest. His sincerity as an actor speaks for itself with his fit looks and the conviction during emotional sequences.

Varsha Bollamma with her expressive eyes provides the innocence required for the story and is aptly suited for her part.

Viva Harsha and Vennela Kishore evoke a few laughs. Kavya doesn’t have much in the character to showcase her mettle. The rest of the cast including Ravi Shankar and Vadivukkarasi provide the much needed fantasy touch to their roles and the movie.

Positives:

  • Background Score
  • Story – Plotline
  • Lead Actors Performances

Negatives:

  • Comedy touch in the second half
  • Lack of high/impactful scenes
  • 2nd Half

Analysis:

With an intriguing plot such as Ooru Peru Bhairavakona, coupled with a good background score, comedy and reasonable performances, any given film is expected to hit the bulls eye. Though Ooru Peru Bhairavakona checks those off with 80% strike rate in the first half, falters completely in the second making it a passable watch. With the kind of build up and impossible situations the first half provides, the follow up was a complete turnaround.

The Director commits a grave mistake by flipping the genre of the film to a comedy for a good 20 minutes right after the interval giving away all the thrill factor. Though the flashback along with the painful innocence, that Basava’s role revolves around, are dealt decently, the movie loses its sheen since the main selling point of the movie itself was the supernatural thrill factor.

With the given budget of the film, the VFX shots and action sequences are decently done. There are definite drags in the film but the plot keeps the audience hooked on. The second half is a complete turnaround especially in the initial 20 minutes after interval, making the movie settle with an average/passable watch feel by its conclusion.

Ooru Peru BhairavaKonda Movie Verdict:

Overall, the movie ends up as an average watch with a mediocre second half diluting the efforts put in the first. Though the lead actors do well and the technical department’s works match up to the plot, the narration in the latter half comes up as a disappointment hurting the film’s prospects.
