Om Shanti Shanti Shantihi is an official remake of the Malayalam film Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey. Starring Tarun Bhascker and Eesha Rebba, the film gathered decent buzz due to its promotions. Let’s see how this remake works and how well the film connects with the audience without feeling like a direct remake.

Story:

Prashanti (Eesha Rebba) grows up living life according to her family’s wishes. From childhood, her opinions have been ignored, whether it is in games, studies, or even marriage. She believes that at least her husband will understand her and respect her choices. But soon after marriage, she realizes that her husband Omkar Naidu (Tarun Bhascker) is short-tempered, aggressive, and believes he has the right to dominate and abuse his wife just because he is a man. How Prashanti responds to her husband’s behavior and whether her dream of living an independent life comes true form the rest of the story.

Performances:

Tarun Bhascker delivers a natural performance as Omkar Naidu, a character that looks innocent on the surface but carries negative shades along with comedy. Eesha Rebba gets a strong and well-written role after a long time, and she makes good use of the opportunity. Her appearance suits the fight scenes well, and she also impresses in emotional moments with her performance.

Brahmaji, in a supporting role, leaves a strong impression and provides plenty of laughs. Supporting actors like Surabhi Prabhavathi, Sivanarayana, and others fit well into their respective roles.

Analysis:

During the promotions, the makers of Om Shanti Shanti Shantihi openly said that their film is a remake, but they adapted the story to suit Telugu sensibilities. Accordingly, they retained the original plot but made a few changes in the screenplay.

Director A.R. Sajeev sincerely tries to ensure that the film does not feel like a remake. In the first half, he balances humor with the inner struggles of the female lead effectively. From the wedding scenes to Prashanti entering her in-laws’ house and observing her husband’s daily behavior, the comedy works well.

The emotional scenes where Prashanti slowly understands her husband’s true nature are also handled nicely. The change in her character before the interval and the scenes where she confronts and challenges her husband are engaging.

But the second half does not maintain the same momentum. Although the husband’s plan to take revenge after being humiliated is interesting on paper, the execution lacks impact. The scenes fail to convincingly plant the idea of whether the husband has genuinely changed or not.

The problems and emotional struggles faced by the heroine after she learns about her husband’s plan feel rushed. The attempt to add comedy in the courtroom scenes towards the climax does not work well. The final twist, however, is decent.

Positives:

  • Tarun Bhascker and Eesha Rebba Performances
  • First Half
  • The Battle Episode in the Second Half

Negatives:

  • Weak Emotional Impact
  • Lacks Momentum in the Second Half
  • Rushed scenes towards the climax

Om Shanti Shanti Shantihi Review and Verdict:

Om Shanti Shanti Shantihi benefits from the effective performances of Tarun Bhascker and Eesha Rebba, the comedy in the first half, and a few well-written scenes. But the weaker second half and lack of emotional depth keep the film at an average level.
