Kantara is a true pan India blockbuster. It has emerged as one of the most profitable and highest grossing movies of Sandalwood. Its reception has largely been universal. Furthermore, it has now reached the 400 crores benchmark in a phase where Bollywood movies of top stars are failing to reach 100 crores mark.
No one even in their dreams would have thought that a small Kannada made with a budget around 10-15 Crores would become such a massive blockbuster. Kantara was released on September 30, after the excellent response poured all over the world it got dubbed and released in other language such as Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi.
This Kannada mystical thriller has collected around 200 crores in its homeland, in Hindi belt it Crossed 100 crores with the dubbed version. Telugu version has collected more than 66 crores as of now and running well in few centers. Even the movie got good collections in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, garnering around 35 crores gross. Hence, it is a wholesome entertainer which cuts across the languages.
Rishab shetty acted, written and directed this movie, Saptami Gowda played the lead actress in the movie. It is a rooted story based in Karnataka’s folk art Panjurli and the community that performs this art.
At the heart of the movie is a land issue that a vulnerable community tries to protect against a feudal Lord, played by very effective Achyuth Kumar. Kishore Kumar played as a fierce police officer who is arrogant in the beginning and has a decent character arc.
The movie proved that content alone is the king, not the stardom Or grandeur. The movie’s technicalities are fantastic, though it was made with a shoestring budget.
