No Solo release advantage for Sankranthi movies this time

Sankranthi is not only festival of agriculture, but also of movies in Telugu states. Next year, sankranthi is no different. Two box office bonanzas are releasing their movies and that will be a close contest. Chiranjeevi and Balakrishna will be locking horns for Sankranthi.

A dubbing movie of Tamil star Vijay is also going to share sankranthi with these two legends who have demigod image among their vast huge fan base.

However, one issue for this sankranthi for all the three stars would be the theater’s issue. Veera Simha Reddy of Balayya and Vijay’s Varisu/ Varasudu will be releasing on 12th of January 2023. Chiranjeevi’s Waltair Veerayya would be releasing on 13th January.

This will create a crunchy situation at the theaters. Theaters have to be shared on key opening days of the release. Generally, there will be a gap of one or two days for festival releases, but this sankranthi isn’t having such gap.

This will definitely affect the openings of all the movies, opening collections play a vital role in a big movie’s success as they cover 60-70% collections of movies in just 3-4 days.

Balayya and Vijay have to share theaters on their day 1 and with these two movies already running on day2, Waltair Veerayya might get lesser theaters on day1. However, Sankranthi season has enough demand at the box office. Theaters will run packed, and the best movie will win eventually.
