Nithiin Signs Samajavaragamana Director Ram Abbaraju’s Film, Third Content-Driven Project After a Long Flop Streak

Looking for Nithiin's upcoming movies? From Nani's Alias Rukmini to new projects with Ram Abbaraju and Sithara Entertainments, here is Nithiin's full slate!

Nithiin has signed another new film, and it is one more sign that the actor has changed his approach. After a long run of flops, he has stepped away from big-budget mass films and is now focusing fully on simple, content-driven films that connect with audiences. His latest project is with Samajavaragamana director Ram Abbaraju, and it is set to go on floors early next year.

A Tough Phase

Nithiin is going through one of the toughest phases of his career. His last big success was Bheeshma in 2020. Since then, films like Macherla Niyojakavargam, Extra Ordinary Man, Robinhood and Thammudu all failed at the box office. Many of these were mass or big-scale entertainers, and none of them clicked.

After those results, Nithiin took a break and rethought his choices. The films he has signed since show a clear shift: smaller budgets, fresh directors and stories that depend on content rather than scale.

Alias Rukmini: Coming December 4

The first film from this new phase is Alias Rukmini, which releases worldwide on December 4, 2026. The film is presented by Nani and produced by his sister Deepthi Ganta under Unanimous Productions, and it is being made on a very reasonable budget.

Directed by Murali Kanth Devasoth, who earned appreciation for his debut Dandoraa, Alias Rukmini is a romantic entertainer. Nithiin plays Krishna, an ordinary man whose quiet life is turned upside down when love and a hidden secret enter his life. Nani has called it “probably the most beautiful Telugu film of the year.” Vijay Bulganin is composing the music, and the makers are revealing who Rukmini is on October 13.

A Sithara Film With Vaishnavi Chaitanya

Nithiin is also shooting another film produced by Sithara Entertainments. Vaishnavi Chaitanya, known for Baby, plays the female lead, and the film is directed by a debutant duo. Like Alias Rukmini, it fits the same idea of fresh talent and content-first storytelling.

Now, Ram Abbaraju

The new addition is his film with Ram Abbaraju. The director is known for Samajavaragamana, the Sree Vishnu comedy that became a big hit in 2023, and Nari Nari Naduma Murari with Sharwanand. His films are known for clean family comedy and strong writing, which is exactly the kind of film Nithiin needs right now.

The film will go on floors early next year, after Nithiin completes his current projects.

A Clear New Plan

With Alias Rukmini, the Sithara film and now the Ram Abbaraju project, Nithiin has three content-driven films lined up. He is also in talks for another film under his own banner, Sresht Movies.

Instead of chasing scale, Nithiin is betting on stories and directors with a track record of connecting with audiences. Alias Rukmini on December 4 will be the first test of this new approach, and its result could set the tone for the rest of his lineup.
