Netflix, the American streaming giant, is reportedly exploring a foray into the theatrical exhibition space in India. If industry buzz is to be believed, the company is considering building theatres across tier-2 and tier-3 cities in the Telugu states. This speculation has gained momentum following Netflix’s recent opening of Eyeline Studios, a 32,000 sq. ft. VFX and post-production facility in Hyderabad—a city that continues to strengthen its position as a major hub for Indian cinema.

Netflix’s Expansion Strategy in India

According to sources, Netflix is not just looking at exhibition but also at distribution. The platform is said to be keen on distributing feature films in India while simultaneously exploring the possibility of screening its original OTT content in theatres. If this materializes, it could mark a significant shift in the traditional film distribution model, potentially blurring the long-standing boundaries between theatrical and digital releases in the Indian market.

The Hyderabad facility, inaugurated in March 2026, represents Netflix’s fifth global Eyeline Studios location alongside Los Angeles, Vancouver, Seoul, and London. The studio specializes in high-end visual effects work and virtual production technology, positioning Telangana as a key player in the global entertainment production ecosystem.

Ustaad Bhagat Singh’s Digital Debut

Meanwhile, Ustaad Bhagat Singh, one of Netflix’s recent Telugu acquisitions, has completed its theatrical run. The Pawan Kalyan-starrer, directed by Harish Shankar, failed to meet box-office expectations and ended up as a commercial disappointment. The action drama is now set to make its digital debut on Netflix later this month, with an official streaming date expected to be announced soon.
