Nani fans have been asking for it for a while, and now it is happening. After a run of intense action films, Nani is returning to the genre he is best known for. The actor has signed an emotional love story with director Prem Kumar, the filmmaker behind 96 and Satyam Sundaram. The film is expected to go on floors in early 2027.
A Long Break From Feel-Good Films
Nani has spent the last few years changing gears. He went raw and violent with Dasara, intense with Saripodhaa Sanivaaram, dark and bloody with HIT 3, and fully into mass action with The Paradise. His next film, Bloody Romeo with OG director Sujeeth, is also an action entertainer, though with a witty twist.
These films have taken his market to new heights, but they also left a gap. Fans have been continuously asking Nani to do one feel-good film, because that is the space where he is at his strongest. Films like Ninnu Kori, Jersey, Shyam Singha Roy and Hi Nanna made audiences connect with him emotionally, and many feel no one in Telugu cinema does that kind of film better.
With Prem Kumar, Nani is doing exactly that.
Why Prem Kumar Is the Perfect Choice
Prem Kumar is one of the best filmmakers in Indian cinema when it comes to emotional storytelling. His debut 96, starring Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha, is still considered one of the finest love stories of recent times. His next, Meiyazhagan with Karthi and Arvind Swami, released in Telugu as Satyam Sundaram and won hearts for its simple and warm storytelling.
His films do not depend on big action or scale. They work because of the emotions, the characters and the small moments, which makes him a natural fit for Nani.
When Will It Begin?
After Satyam Sundaram, Prem Kumar did a film with Fahadh Faasil. His next film after that will be with Nani. Nani, meanwhile, will first complete Bloody Romeo with Sujeeth, and the Prem Kumar film is expected to go on sets in early 2027.
For Nani fans, this combination is the perfect balance. While Bloody Romeo keeps the action going, the film with Prem Kumar promises the kind of emotional love story that made them fall in love with Nani in the first place.
