Nagarjuna has never shied away from experimenting with various movie genres. While some have paid off, some have ended up as major disasters. At one time with Manam, Soggade Chinni Nanyana, and Oopiri, Nagarjuna showed what the audience expects from senior heroes. Those movies did very well at the box office and also received great acclaim from the audience.
After these films, he went on an experimental spree with an extremely weak content project such as Manmadhudu 2 and action films like Officer with RGV who lost his market completely. After this, he continued his action spree with Wild Dog and Ghost. The common thread between his three successful films was that they were family entertainers with strong content. While the failures were action films with wafer-thin screenplay.
After Ghost, he realized this problem and took time and released Naa Sami Ranga which is doing well and has brought great relief to Nagarjuna. Nagarjuna is now not interested in taking risks and he wants to do family films or rural backdrop films which have traditionally worked well for him.
His next project is a multi-starrer film with Dhanush in Sekhar Kammula’s direction. He further wants to do a rural film in the Soggade Chinni Nayana franchise and wants to release for the next Sankranthi which has traditionally been a good release time for him as well as movies of such genre.
