Mowgli, directed by Sandeep Raj, was scheduled for theatrical release on 12th December but was moved to 13th December due to the sudden arrival of Akhanda 2. But the overseas premieres were screened on December 11th, and the Mowgli team’s confidence backfired as they received mixed reviews.
The makers also came up with a smart strategy of putting a 99 rs ticket price in the single screens. However, the Mowgli team took a big risk with confidence that screening very early premieres overseas.
As said above, the movie’s premiere happened yesterday itself, and it opens with below-par WOM and reviews, which will now massively impact the overall talk. The WOM is already spreading over the internet, and Indian shows are yet to start.
These kinds of situations are very risky, because the Indian premieres start tonight, and now overseas reviews play a big role. The team needs to hope for positive WOM from Indian premieres to turn around the situation, with ticket pricing working as a good advantage for them.
Having said that, the filmmakers should think twice before going for early overseas premieres, as there will be benefits and losses as well.
